I’m a retired US Air Force veteran and a Homegrown By Heroes member of the Farmers Veteran Coalition. I have always been very passionate about wanting to join the military and wanting to be a farmer. Becoming a farmer would be quite difficult though since I grew up in the suburbs of Houston, Texas surrounded by concrete. We were lucky enough to have a little bit of land though and my family we always grew a big garden each year.
I went to college and then joined the Air Force when I was 21. When I was getting close to my retirement I pondered what to do next and becoming a farmer was a no-brainer. My wife and I started off with 3 acres in Midwest City, Oklahoma naturally growing garlic and along with other fruit and vegetables. We started making handmade soap and this is also when we started our sheep flock. As we grew it became abundantly clear that we needed more land because we were outgrowing it. We found 30 acres in Stillwater, Oklahoma and relocated there in 2023. We have also added another 10 acres since then. We are currently growing garlic, raising sheep and starting our expansion towards raising cattle for a beef operation.
