Product Description
Kune Kune’s are a mild-tempered lard breed of pig out of New Zealand. Due to their small stature and slow growth, they can take up to 16-months to get to butcher size (ideally, 200lbs live weight). However, they are excellent foragers and produce beautifully marbled meat. While they might not make the largest pork-chops, the bacon will have you wishing you purchased more herd-shares! We rotate our Kune Kunes on pasture all year long and supplement their diet with locally sourced pig feed and kitchen/garden scraps.
We offer full and half herd shares at $2.75/live weight. Meaning, when the pig is transported to the butcher, he will weigh the pig, and we will charge you $2.75/live weight. A full herd share will weigh in around 200 lbs, costing around $550 for roughly 100 lbs of meat and lard. Custom cut sheets available. Currently, there is an extra $0.75/lb charge for curing bacon, ham, and hocks. Quarter shares available if the entire pig is being made into sausage.
